Violence, vandalism, physical abuse and bullying in schools, as well as corruption and abuse of power are actually reflection of a moral human problem. Those bad deeds appear from people who have something problem with their understanding on religion. Because of the majority of Indonesian citizens embrace Islam, so that the doers of such behaviors mostly Muslims. In fact, the Islamic teaching itself never allows solving problem with violence except in a battle.

As Muslims they should follow the teaching of Islam that brought by the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him (PBUH) as a man of God. It is described in Quran, chapter 68 article 4 about Muhammad PBUH: " and surely thou hast sublime moral" (al Qalam: 4).  The true believer is the one who shown a best sublime moral. In Islam, sublime moral is importance that is "fruit of Islamic tree, rooted faith (akidah) and have leaves Islamic law ".

Muhammad is the Role Model

Muhammad PBUH is the role model for Muslim. He is the last and the greatest of all prophets. Sublime moral is presented by Muhammad PBUH in his daily activity such as to perform good deeds, respect guest and others, avoid violence, show kindness and prefer to find agreement by a dialog. In reality, Muslims include cleric and preachers often do not care attentively such good examples of the prophet's sublime moral. We have not fully practicing and implementing such character in our daily activities. Preachers tend to convey their message dominantly by spoken or words and deliver it through printed and electronic media. There is actually nothing wrong with this; but, such preach should be followed by concrete examples as mentioned above. Words should be in line with deeds. Soekarno, our first President used to say "unite our words into behavior".

People who know and have mastery on religion are not certainly performed well in concrete behavior of social life. Indeed, if preacher does not act in accord with such Islamic teaching then he can be regarded as insulting the religion itself as quote from Quran (as-Saff): "O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not?" (chapter 61:2); article 3: "Grievously hateful is it in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not".

If Muslims perform sublime moral in their social life, then we will find peace and can create conducive climate for among religion followers tolerance. As the majority I think Muslims can take a role to unite the differences and disharmony happen in the Country.

Reprehensible Character

Islam certainly, does not allow reprehensible character (akhlak tercela).  To let a hatred of community over other community will create much violence, intimidation, hurt, insulting, etc. Opinion enforcement by arrogant power is a reprehensible character. Those who like to force other by muscle in form of violence on behalf of a religion is definitely not truly Muslim. They perceived on the straightway (but) in astray.

The violent people, absolutely, come from people who have problem in their understanding of faith. Such reprehensible character is satan or evil attitudes which mislead human being to plunge into worst deeds and wrong ways of Islamic corridor.  The badness of people that can plunge them into hell. Therefore, the believers are forbidden to destroy nature and its environments.

From Islamic value view point, a man is the caliph of Almighty in this world in order to protect the nature from disaster that caused by human being. The religion completely accepts good deeds and righteous character as manifestation of a pious person. Awhile, the religion will reject all bad deeds which make trouble or disaster to creatures and universe without any acceptable reason.

Reprehensible character will never create good working condition as well as good social life. It is even proved that reprehensible behaviors will put the nation in uncivilized society if so many people doing such bad deeds. Democracy needs good not bad people.

Example from the Prophet

There are many good examples performed by the Prophet on how to conduct sublime moral. This character plays important role in interreligious followers. Ustadz, priest, pastor, monks and other religious figures understand the importance of sublime moral in life and society. In Islam, the Prophet Muhammad PBUH came to the world as a man of God brought message to enhance sublime moral of people. He said that "surely Allah ordered me to improve upon behavior of humankind" (al Hadist).

Once upon a time, it is told in the history that the Prophet fed an old blind Jewish man. This blind man did not aware that Muhammad was the one who fed him, whereas he hated him. He kept talking about Muhammad that was reviled and humiliated by such a blind old man. Muhammad just listened him patience without anger. The prophet never offended and keep fed until Muhammad passed away. For some time no body replace Muhammad to feed that old blind man. Then, Abu Bakar, a companion of the Prophet filled the position of Muhammad to feed. It is necessarily, the old blind man surprised with "touching" and the way to feeding. Afterward, there was a conversation between both of them approximately like this: "Who are you?". "I am Abu Bakar", said the companion. The old blind man said again, "all time I was fed by a man with soft and patience". Then, Bakar informed that a man who fed him was Muhammad and he passed away.  Suddenly, the man shocked to hear that.  It was surprised him because he often insulted and humiliated Muhammad. He was very sad and shown resentfully.

Finally, the above story indicated the prophet had sublime moral. Presently, in our beloved Country there is an assumption that our character nation is becoming worst and slumped. Phenomenon of violence indicates such worry. Some people believe to insert character education into school's curriculum. According to Albert Bandura (1977) the social learning will be effectively achieved if there is a good example from elites and leaders.
