MALIKI ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY – Digital transformation in higher education is no longer just about providing technology-based services. Amid the increasing need for data integration and cybersecurity, universities are required to build a planned, connected, and secure digital ecosystem.
This effort is currently being undertaken by Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University (UIN) Malang. This commitment has attracted the attention of the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), which conducted a working visit to the Information Technology and Data Center (PTIPD) of UIN Malang on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
This visit served as a discussion space regarding the development of campus information technology infrastructure, particularly the development of *Enterprise Architecture*, which is currently being formulated by UIN Malang as the foundation for long-term digital transformation.
In many educational institutions, information systems often develop partially according to the needs of each unit. As a result, various applications operate independently, are difficult to integrate, and even have the potential to cause data duplication. This condition presents a challenge that aims to be addressed through the development of *Enterprise Architecture*.
The head of PTIPD UIN Malang and the team presented various steps that have been taken in formulating the digital transformation roadmap for the campus. In the process, UIN Malang partnered with Brainmatics, a consulting firm with experience in developing *Enterprise Architecture* in various institutions.
Brainmatics representative, Mulyana, explained that *Enterprise Architecture* is a strategic approach that connects business processes, data, applications, and technology infrastructure into one integrated framework.
"The development of Enterprise Architecture at UIN Malang is not just about building a new IT system, but aligning all academic and non-academic business processes to be integrated with each other. With a mature blueprint, we ensure that there are no more systems operating independently or overlapping, making campus services much more efficient," he said.
According to him, the success of digital transformation is not only determined by the sophistication of the technology used but also by the alignment between organizational needs, governance, and the readiness of human resources to implement it.
In the discussion, cybersecurity aspects were also a primary concern. The presence of BSSN is considered strategic because the agency has a mandate to maintain the security of the national cyberspace.
For universities that increasingly rely on digital systems, protection of academic data, student data, and various online services has become a non-negotiable necessity. Therefore, the development of technology architecture must go hand in hand with the implementation of strong information security standards.
The meeting between PTIPD UIN Malang and BSSN not only discussed technological developments but also opened opportunities for collaboration in strengthening cybersecurity governance within the campus environment.
The steps taken by UIN Malang demonstrate that the concept of a *Smart Campus* is not just about presenting applications and digital services. More than that, a *Smart Campus* requires an integrated foundation, good governance, and a security system capable of ensuring the reliability of services in the digital era.
Through the synergy between PTIPD, BSSN, and Brainmatics, Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang State Islamic University is striving to build a digital ecosystem that is not only modern and efficient but also safe and trustworthy as a support for higher education services in the future.
