MALIKI ISLAMIC UNIVERSITY— The Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) and the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang held the launch of a short film entitled "Retak" as an effort to increase awareness and prevent acts of sexual violence among students. This activity was held on Friday, March 6 2026 at the Microteaching Auditorium of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) UIN Malang.
The event was attended by UIN Malang students who seemed enthusiastic about participating in the film screening. "Crack" is a media for reflection and education that depicts the reality of sexual violence that often occurs in the surrounding environment, especially among students.
The film producer explained that the film "Retak" is the third work produced by the PSGA team and was made based on the results of research and field observations. According to him, films are not just entertainment, but can also be a medium for conveying deep messages to society.
"We made this film based on research we conducted. The data we found shows that from year to year the main perpetrators of sexual violence are often ex-boyfriends, then girlfriends. This is a quite worrying phenomenon," he said.
He also expressed his concern about the phenomenon he often encounters, especially at dawn when many students are taken by their partners to different boarding houses. According to him, this is a real picture of a social phenomenon that can trigger various problems, including the potential for sexual violence.
Furthermore, he explained that there are two types of sexual violence, namely avoidable and unavoidable sexual violence. The story told in the film "Retak" is included in the category that could have been avoided, so the main message of this film is to invite students to be more careful in making decisions and choosing their social environment.
In his speech, the organizers also expressed their appreciation to the actors and production team who had succeeded in presenting work that was both touching and educational. He even considered that the quality of the film was worthy of being shown on the big screen.
Through the launch of the film "Retak", PSGA UIN Malang hopes that students will be more aware of the importance of taking care of themselves, understanding boundaries in relationships, and having the courage to take steps to prevent various forms of sexual violence in the campus environment.
