Each faculty offers a variety of departments, with a total of 53 departments across the university.

 Department of Constitutional Law


Department of Constitutional Law (Siyāsah), Faculty of Sharia, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang establishes the vision of “Becoming an excellent and internationally reputable Department of Constitutional Law in fostering a harmonious, beneficial (maslahah), and enlightened society.” This vision is formulated through input from stakeholders and aligned with the vision of the university and faculty, serving as the foundation for education, learning, and departmental development. The development of the Department of Constitutional Law follows the institutional development phases of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (2006–2010: institutional and academic strengthening; 2011–2020: regional reputation; 2021–2030: international reputation) and emphasizes the integration of knowledge. This includes the integration of pesantren and higher education systems, as well as positioning the Qur’an and Hadith as sources of inspiration for the development of law in Indonesia.

Department of Sharia Economic Law (HES)


The Department of Sharia Economic Law (HES) is a leading program that focuses on the development of economic law based on Sharia principles, integrated with the Indonesian legal system. The department is designed to produce graduates with strong academic, professional, and moral competencies to address the challenges of the growing Sharia economy and business sectors at both national and global levels.

 Department of Hadith Studies (ILHA)


The Department of Hadith Studies (ILHA) is part of the Faculty of Sharia at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. It was officially established under Decree Number 524 of 2023 and began its operations in June 2023, with its most recent accreditation rated as “Good.” The department was developed as part of the university’s broader vision toward achieving international reputation, with a curriculum aligned with the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI), National Higher Education Standards (SNPT), and the Merdeka Belajar–Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) policy. Institutionally, ILHA is designed to be responsive to advancements in science and technology, as well as socio-religious dynamics, enabling it to produce graduates who are adaptive while remaining rooted in Islamic scholarly traditions.

Department of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir (IAT) 


The Department of Qur’anic Studies and Tafsir (IAT), Faculty of Sharia, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, is established as a department focused on strengthening the study of the Qur’an and Tafsir through an integrative, multidisciplinary, and internationally oriented approach. The department is built upon a clear vision to become a center for the development of Qur’anic and Tafsir studies that is not only academically strong but also relevant to contemporary social, legal, and humanitarian challenges. This vision is aligned with the development direction of both the university and the faculty, and serves as the primary foundation for all educational and learning processes.

Department of English Language Education

The Department of English Language Education is a department focused on developing English language competencies integrated with Islamic values and the Ulul Albab character. This program is designed to produce prospective educators and professionals in the field of English who are not only academically excellent but also possess strong moral integrity, ethics, and global insight.  

Department of Pharmacist Professional Education (PSPPA)


The Department of Pharmacist Professional Education (PSPPA), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, is a professional education program aimed at producing pharmacists with the Ulul Albab character. PSPPA UIN Malang delivers professional education in accordance with national standards, with a distinctive institutional approach that integrates pharmaceutical sciences and Islamic values. As a result, its graduates are not only technically competent but also possess strong professional ethics.

 Department of Biology


The Department of Biology, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, is established as an educational institution that integrates academic excellence with Islamic values. With a vision to become an excellent and internationally reputable department in the application of biological sciences through the integration of science and Islam for sustainable management of biological resources, the department is committed to producing graduates who are competent, well-rounded, and capable of making meaningful contributions to society. The implementation of an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum in academic activities is designed not only to emphasize theoretical mastery but also to develop practical skills, research capabilities, and readiness to face global challenges. Graduates of the Department of Biology are awarded the Bachelor of Science (S.Si.) degree and are prepared for careers as early-career researchers in biology and biotechnology, laboratory analysts, environmental specialists, educators and academics, as well as entrepreneurs in bioresource-based sectors.

 

Master’s Program in Biology


Master’s Program in Biology at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is a distinguished graduate program designed to address the challenges of modern biological sciences while meeting the demands of the professional world. With a vision to achieve international reputation, the program integrates scientific knowledge, innovative research, and Islamic values in the sustainable management of biological resources. The learning process emphasizes not only mastery of concepts but also the development of critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities to address strategic issues such as biotechnology, healthcare, conservation, and the halal industry.

Department of English Literature


The English Literature Study Program is part of the Faculty of Humanities at Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang and has a long-standing track record in the development of English language, literature, and cultural studies. The program was established on May 13, 1998, under its original name, Tadris Bahasa Inggris, and has continued to evolve alongside the institutional transformation of the university.

Since 2017, it has been officially known as the English Literature Study Program, reflecting a broader and more in-depth academic focus that aligns with global dynamics, intercultural communication, and the strengthening of Islamic values within the field of humanities.

Department of Architecture


The Department of Architecture at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang was established on January 23, 2004, and has continued to grow as a distinctive architecture program characterized by the integration of scientific knowledge and Islamic values. Situated within a leading Islamic public university, the department is committed to producing professional architects who are not only technically competent but also possess strong moral integrity and spiritual awareness.

Department of Islamic Family Law


The Department of Al-Ahwal Al-Syakhshiyyah, Faculty of Sharia was developed from the Al-Ahwal Al-Syakhshiyyah Study Program under the Department of Sharia at the State Islamic College (STAIN) Malang, which was established in the 1997/1998 academic year based on the Decree of the Director General for Islamic Institutional Development of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs No. E/107/1998 dated May 13, 1998. As formal recognition of the Department of Al-Ahwal Al-Syakhshiyyah, in 2002 the Decree of the Director General for Islamic Institutional Development of the Ministry of Religious Affairs No. E/10/2002 was issued, stating that graduates of the program were awarded the degree Sarjana Hukum Islam (S.HI.). Since August 9, 2015, the degree designation has been updated to Sarjana Hukum (S.H).

Department of Library and Information Science


In today’s digital era, information is no longer merely a collection of data, but a key driver of progress. The Department of Library and Information Science is dedicated to producing information professionals who are not only proficient in technology-based information management but also uphold strong moral integrity, resulting in graduates who excel intellectually and possess profound spiritual depth. Studying in this department means preparing to become a professional who is relevant to the demands of the times. The education we provide is designed to shape information professionals who are not only technically skilled in managing information centers but also demonstrate integrity, ethical responsibility, and broad insight.

Department of Psychology


The Department of Psychology, Faculty of Psychology at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is an academic unit committed to developing psychological sciences through the integration of scientific knowledge and Islamic values. Established in 1997 and later developed into a faculty in 2002, the Department of Psychology has consistently demonstrated progress in governance, academic quality, and scholarly contributions. Situated within UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, which is known for its integrated knowledge paradigm, the department reinforces its position as a center for psychological studies that is excellent, innovative, and internationally reputable.

Master’s Program in Professional Psychology


The Department of Master’s Program in Psychology at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang was established in 2019 based on a Decree of the Minister of National Education and has been managed by the Faculty of Psychology since 2020. The program is designed to respond to the growing need for psychology professionals who are academically competent while grounded in Islamic values. With a multi-entry system, it accommodates graduates from both Psychology and non-Psychology backgrounds, equipping students with strong scientific research skills, a comprehensive understanding of human behavior through the integration of psychology and Islam, and a firm commitment to professional ethical standards.  

Department of Mathematics 


The Department of Mathematics at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is a higher education institution with a scientific vision “to become an internationally reputable department in the development of mathematical theory and its applications through strengthened computational approaches that integrate science and Islamic values.” The department primarily focuses on advancing both theoretical and applied mathematics, particularly through computational mathematics grounded in the integration of science and Islamic principles, making it distinctive in its approach. Its curriculum is designed not only to emphasize intellectual excellence in pure and applied mathematics but also to incorporate computational methods for problem-solving, while aligning these competencies with a strong foundation of spiritual and religious values.

Department of Chemistry 


The Department of Chemistry under the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is located on the 2nd floor of the B.J. Habibie Building, Campus 1, Jl. Gajayana No. 50, Malang, East Java. The department was established based on the recommendation of the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education No. 3445/D/T/2002 (November 20, 2002), formally authorized through the Decree of the Directorate General of Islamic Institutions No. DJ.II/59/2003 (April 24, 2003), and began admitting students in the 2003/2004 academic year. With a vision to become an internationally reputable department in mastering and applying chemical sciences in the fields of halal products, phytopharmaceuticals, energy, and the environment through the integration of science and Islamic values, the department remains committed to producing chemists of Ulul Albab character.

 

Department of Arabic Language and Literature


The Department of Arabic Language and Literature under the Faculty of Humanities at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is one of the university’s leading academic departments, established on May 13, 1998, based on the Decree of the Director General of Islamic Education No. E/107/1998. Since its inception, the department has become a preferred choice for students seeking to master the Arabic language and culture while preparing for professional careers across various fields.

Department of Civil Engineering 


The Department of Civil Engineering at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang implements an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) curriculum that emphasizes the achievement of graduate competencies aligned with the demands of the workforce and the advancement of the modern construction industry. The curriculum is systematically developed through periodic evaluations involving academic experts, industry practitioners, alumni, and other stakeholders. The learning process integrates lectures, laboratory practicums, case studies, fieldwork, design projects, and student research activities, fostering an applied learning approach that enables students to bridge theoretical knowledge with real-world practice and enhances their career readiness upon graduation. In addition, the department actively cultivates a productive research culture as a key component of academic excellence, with research conducted by faculty members and students spanning various areas of civil engineering, focusing on sustainable infrastructure development, environmentally friendly construction technologies, disaster risk mitigation, and the application of digital technologies in civil engineering. The outcomes of these research initiatives are not only published in scientific journals but also implemented through community engagement programs as practical solutions to development challenges.


Department of Informatics Engineering


The Department of Informatics Engineering (Undergraduate Program) at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, under the Faculty of Science and Technology, is committed to producing outstanding graduates in the field of information technology through the integration of informatics knowledge and Islamic values in every aspect of the learning process. The curriculum is designed to be adaptive to the rapid development of the digital industry and the demands of national technological transformation, covering key areas such as software engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, computer networks, and intelligent systems. Students are equipped with strong analytical, programming, and system design skills aligned with industry needs, supported by an Outcome-Based Education framework that corresponds to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework. In addition, the program emphasizes the development of essential soft skills, including communication, collaboration, and problem-solving, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to compete at both national and international levels.

Department of Islamic Banking, Faculty of Economics 


The Department of Islamic Banking under the Faculty of Economics at Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is established as an integrative academic department that combines scientific knowledge and Islamic principles in the development of banking studies. With a vision to become an internationally reputable department in advancing the management and business of Islamic financial institutions while producing graduates with ulul albab character, the department is committed to delivering high-quality education that goes beyond academic achievement to include the cultivation of strong Islamic character.
